CHARACTERS: Lithuania, Poland
RATING: G
SUMMARY: (1776) The first polish novel is printed. Poland is, needless to say, excited.

-----1776
Night had nearly fallen by the time Lithuania entered the modest house with a sigh. Winter had almost arrived, and the work was hardly over. Poland skipping out that day was no help at all (though, sometimes, he did seem to slow progress by distracting Lithuania with his fanciful ideas). He had been sent for by some count, to receive a gift.
Lithuania scoffed. No matter if he was something of a distraction during work times, coming home to be with someone was still something Lithuania enjoyed. The prospect of an empty house was starting to feel quite unusual.
At least, he thought it was empty. As he neared the bedroom, Lithuania heard the crackle of a fire as it burned in the hearth. As he pulled open the door, he saw that Poland had beaten him home. The other man was seated on the bead, a red blanket bundled around him. He clutched a book in front of his nose and bopped excitedly.
“Hey, Liet! You’re like, home!” Though still huddled in the blanket, one leg escaped the red folds.
“What’s that you’ve got there?” Reading was not on the top of Poland’s list of Totally Awesome Stuff. Didn’t help that most of what they read were dry, official documents about last season’s profits.
Poland beamed. He’d obviously been hoping for the question. “Like, so, I was presented to this count guy, right? And he gives me this book. So, at first, I’m all kinda meh, but then I realize that it’s not some boring numbers, but a story about this guy who goes on journeys. It’s like those books published by other countries except for it’s by me!” He touches the cover to his nose and grins excitedly. “Come over here!”
Lithuania sat with his back to the fire, and Poland immediately scooted closer. “Now, come on! I haven’t opened this yet, and I’m like, totally dying to.”
Lithuania was honestly perplexed at his partner’s action. “Why?” He asked, tilting his head.
“Well, you really like books, so I thought you’d be happy to see it. Now, come on, read it aloud.”
Lithuania smiled widely. He knew. Even if Poland wasn’t too interested in the content, he would sit and listen and smile because it was his book of adventures.
Poland was still talking, “…and as soon as I heard about it, I knew that I had to show you because, like, you’d think it was awesome and we could read it together and…”
Poland was silenced, though, by Lithuania lifting the book from his grip and opening to the first page.
…Their book.
